a job but can't find one our work isn't done. >> reporter: rounding out his day campaign stops in nevada and colorado. it combined 15elect, roal votes. the running mates also out in full force. four campaign events between the two. in iowa, the vice president accused the romney campaign of flip-flopping. > >> they are shameless. >> reporter: in colorado paul ryan argued the obama policies aren't working >> reporter: over the next several days you can expect to see more events just like those in the remaining swing states. also though don't be surprise fire department the campaigns -- surprised if the campaigns decide to add extra stops. >> talked more about where they will be so tell us in the remaining days where. >> reporter: this is going to be one busy schedule for both of them. let's start with romney and show you what he will be up too tomorrow. he will travel to wisconsin and ohio and then over the weekend he will make five more trips to different states. moving onto obama tomorrow he will be in ohio as well and then he will visit six other battleground states over the weekend.

on the trail. president obama visits wisconsin, nevada and colorado for the first campaign since sandy hit. >> we can't go on the we're on. we can't change course in america if we keep on attacking each other. we've got to come together and get america on track again. >> reporter: the race is still a dead-heat. the daily abc news/"washington post" tracking poll show the candidates tied among likely voters at 49%. the same poll found president obama's response to the superstorm positively. 78% say mr. obama's handling the situation excellent or good. the president toured storm-ravaged new jersey with republican governor chris christie. >> hang in there. >> reporter: the governor, usually one of the president's harshest critics had nothing but find words for him. >> he's worked closely with me. and i can't thank the president enough for his personal concern and compassion for our state and the people of our state. >> reporter: both the romney and obama campaigns think they're winning. the obama campaign points to the president leading or tied with romney in the eight closest battlegrounds. w

they went to nevada, colorado, iowa, wisconsin, ohio, virginia and new hampshire and these are the ones who have been the surrogates with mrs. obama, no, my husband is not a cold fish. we have dinner every night with the kids. you should know him. you should see that smile. i love him. you should love him. mrs. romney who is very close te plays a bigger role than just being the wife of, she is the one who said, he is not a stiff man. look at us. and, by the way, you talked about the grandchildren. there are 18 grandchildren. 13 of them are boys. >> all right. let us put that to the decision desk and see what that means. okay, barbara, stand by, team. we know you have so much more you're eager to say and we'll take a break at election night headquarters 2012 reporting on one of the great nights in democracy, one of the great privileges it is to vote as the polls still are open and a lot of this country projections come in and we have more, of course, to report on what social media is saying when we come back. >> announcer: multitouchscenes courtesy of microsoft. >>> and we are back in times

playing defense. the president, back on the campaign trail today. going to wisconsin, colorado and nevada. mitt romney will be campaigning in virginia. george, you can expect both of them to be campaigning virtually nonstop between now and tuesday. >> no question about it. they're going to be focused on the white battleground states and the pink in north carolina, over the next several days. want to give you a sense of each side's strategy. what the obama campaign is trying to do is build a firewall in the big american states, iowa, wisconsin. he gets to 271 electoral votes. and if mitt romney wins all of the other battlegrounds right there, he'll come up a little bit short, which may explain, jon, one of the reasons the romney campaign is trying to put new efforts into minnesota and pennsylvania and michigan, where they have been behind so far. but if they're able to pick off any one of those three states, that's enough to put him over the top. and one of the things we're seeing, you talk about the travel in the last few days. these battleground states, jon, are also completely inundated

the early volt for republicans in north carolina, colorado, and looks good for democrats in iowa, nevada and ohio. though ohio is a little trekkie to get a sense of just yet. the president up by five, six points in that state according to most polls right now. it is good the engagement is high and enthusiasm is up there. >> just make sure your voice is heard at the polls. >> stand in the line, folks. here in new york the police charged a nanny in the deaths of the two young children in her care. ortega is recovering from self-inflicted stab wound and remains in the hospital under guard. that case certainly just chilled the nation a few days back. >> just tragic. to a dramatic crash caught on camera. amazingly everyone walks away without so much as a scratch. >> unbelievable. take a look at the freight train barrelling along a railroad track in utah as a water truck tries to get across. the truck is smashed to pieces but the two men inside are not hurt at all. james wood was recording the train for his 4-year-old son when the crash took place. he said he rushed to the truck, expecting to
